This is an instrument box for the active clay (clay) content determined by the methylene blue assay (MBT) method. The total cation exchange capacity (CEC) of the solid phase in the drilling fluid can be estimated using the methylene blue capacity.
1. Test equipment:
a. Syringe (TD): 10cm3
b. Conical flask: 250cm3
c. Burette: 10cm3
d. Pipette: 1 cm
e. Measuring cylinder: 50 cm3
f. Stirring rod
g. Heating plate
h. Filter paper
2. Test reagents:
a. Methylene blue solution: 3.2 g / l concentration, reagent grade methylene blue (C16H18N3SCl) (1cm3 = 0.01 meq)
Note: The pH of the reagent grade methylene blue must be determined each time the solution is configured, and 1.000 g of methylene blue is dried at 93 ° C to constant weight.
When the solution is configured, the sample size is corrected as follows:
Sampling weight (g) = 3.20 / dry sample weight g
b. Hydrogen peroxide: 3% solution
c. Dilute sulfuric acid: about 5N
